About Our Coaches
Karen Eckel – Head Coach - Karen brings 30 years of mountain biking experience to this team. After buying her first mountain bike in 1989, she started riding her favorite hiking trails and was immediately hooked. She is always excited to share her passion for the sport with the kids. This team fulfills a long time dream of coaching mountain biking and introducing others to the sport. Karen brings with her communication, organizational and technical riding skills. Her daughter is currently a senior at RHS and together it was their vision and hard work that created this team.
Brady Crites - Assistant Head Coach - Herr Crites is an AP German teacher at Rochester High School. Coach Brady will be assuming the role of Assistant Head Coach for the upcoming season and will be involved in assisting with the overall management of the team. Relatively new to the sport, he is excited to be learning more about mountain biking along with the students.
Marc Milam - Race Coach - Marc is an ex-professional rider and brings racing experience to this team in multiple disciplines - cross country, slalom, downhill and BMX. He previously coached the Catholic Central High School Mountain Bike Team for 3 years and led our race group last season. His daughter is a Freshman at RHS.
Jeff Cerget - Race Coach - Jeff has been riding bikes since the age of 10 and is an ex-USAC champion for Michigan in the expert classification. He has been racing MTB XC since 2001 and recently had a total knee replacement in 2017. This is Jeff's second year coaching and is extremely interested in sharing his knowledge about riding, training and racing. His son is a returning Sophomore at AHS this fall and will be racing JV again this year.
Tim Finkel - Race Coach - Tim is a new teacher at West Middle School. He began racing mountain bikes when he was a teenager. This eventually evolved into working in several bike shops, and also racing the road. Throughout the years he has raced on several club teams as well as racing on Trek’s Factory Team, The 29er Crew, for three years. During this time, Tim specialized in ultra-endurance Mountain Bike events including the NUE 100 mile series as well as 12 and 24 hour solo races. In 2008, he won the 24 hours of Hot August Nights in Albion Hills, Canada, setting a course record and qualifying him for the 2009 24 hour World Championships in Canmore, Alberta. In 2010, he won the Michigan Ultra-Endurance Single Speed State Championships. He also won Iceman back to back in 2011 and 2012 in the Men’s Elite Single Speed Category. Tim has a passion for riding and working with other racers to progress in the sport. Tim is a great new addition to the team this year.
Rob Parrish - Race Coach - Rob has been racing mountain and road bikes since 2013 and has enjoyed many race experiences across North America including Leadville, Wilmington Whiteface, Brek Epic and Sea Otter to name a few. Most recently Rob and his teammate enjoyed a 2019 Iceman Tandem Podium. He is also a Alpine and Nordic National Senior Ski Patroller in addition to an active member of CRAMBA Bike Patrol. Rob is a great new addition to the team this year.
Mike Hartrick - Club Coach - Mike has been an avid mountain biker since 2012 and joined the Rochester Mountain Bike Team as a coach in 2019. You'll frequently find him riding local trails and he loves traveling to Copper Harbor and other locations for mountain biking. Mike is a member of the KLM/Cold Stone bike racing team with experience in cross country and enduro mountain bike racing. He also races track bikes at the Lexus Velodrome (Detroit) and International Velodrome at Bloomer Park. His daughter rides with the team and is currently a junior at Avondale High School.
Erick Mile - Club Coach - Erick has been mountain biking since the mid 90s and heavily involved in the community since 2007 when he found the MMBA-Metro north (Now CRAMBA) group rides . He is regularly building and maintaining area trails, has served on CRAMBA’s board for several terms, and has been a mountain bike patroller since 2017. Erick has some race experience having done a few dozen races over his cycling career, but would rather focus on MTB advocacy and family biking over getting fast enough to compete. For the 2020 season Erick will have 2 boys on the team. His oldest son Colin's racing career started in the early days of MISCA when he was regularly on the podium in the under 10 category until he gave up racing to focus on soccer for a few years. With the addition of a bike team @ RHS, he gave up soccer to re-engage in MTB racing.
Tim Tapert - Club Coach - Often riding with the team and following his boys on the trail last year, Tim is joining us as a coach this season. Tim spends his winters on skis supporting his sons and their Adams High School ski team. Skiing is considered a sister sport to mountain biking and we look forward to him transferring his knowledge of ski techniques to the bike this year.
Mike Mackens - Club Coach - Mike will be joining the students on Thursday mornings for our scheduled endurance rides. Mike is an experienced and avid golfer and uses cycling to keep fit. He is another great new addition to this years' team.
Mario Prisciandaro - Student Coach - Mario was a Team Captain last season and is currently a senior at Rochester High School. Mario has stepped into the role of Student Coach this year and will also be assisting with team promotion and recruitment. His other interests include robotics.
This years team Captains are
Sarah Milam and Colin Mile
Sarah is a Sophmore at Rochester High School. This is her second year on the mountain bike team. Sarah has ridden for as long as she can remember and has raced with MiSCA for over 6 years. When not on the bike, she plays Volleyball and is currently playing for a Unified Team.
Colin is a Junior at Rochester High School. This is also his second year on the mountain bike team. Colin has been racing on the MiSCA circuit for many years. When not on the bike, or building bikes at KLM, he is practicing his bass clarinet and performs with the Rochester High School Falcon Marching Band.
