New Program for 2021
Adventure Rides are a great introduction to Adventure Racing without the paddling and distance running! The events will be held at Bloomer Park. Mountain Biking and Adventure Racing are closely related sports!
Expect a shortened, mountain-biking-slanted-version, of an adventure ride. Arrive promptly at or before the 6:00 start time to get your map, instructions, and team designation. There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting at 6:10. Teams will be given about 10 minutes after the pre-race meeting to work on strategy prior the race, which will start promptly at 6:30. Participants should finish the course by 8:00. The competition is friendly, but the feel of an adventure race is real!
Teams will work together by following written instructions and a map to ride, navigate, and go on foot up to 100 meters from the bike drop, to find six control points in the wooded and hilly areas of Bloomer’s mountain bike trails on foot. This event is more about following instructions and having a good strategy than it is about riding and running fast. The short on-foot distances can be accomplished with bike shoes and cleats, but some may choose to switch to flats and running shoes, due to the time spent on-foot.
Teams will include one coach, and up to three students. At least one team member must have a compass. A baseplate navigating compass is strongly recommended, although a smartphone app will work in a pinch.
If you have never used a compass for navigation, don’t worry, the navigation will be very basic, and students will be given a “course on navigation” in the pre-race meeting.
If you are looking for something just a little bit different from mountain biking, but still want to ride your bike, check this out. It’s a great distraction from just riding!
Join us for an Adventure Race on 10/2/21 at Holly Recreation Area in Holly, MI. This race is being organized by our very own Coach Mark Ware!
